HABITUDES-

Leadership

The Milton PTSA, through parent support, has adopted the Growing Leaders program which is used by over 8,000 schools, universities and organizations across the country--Duke University, Stanford University, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Auburn University, University of Georgia Women's Basketball, Kansas City Royals, Texas Longhorns, and Delta Airlines just to name just a few. Growing Leaders is a non-profit organization whose mission is to train students in leadership skills vital throughout their careers.

Teens are growing up in an image-rich culture. Habitudes, the Growing Leaders program, utilizes images, conversations and experiences to present timeless leadership and life principles on character, discipline, identity, time management, initiative, personal growth, mental toughness and responsibility. Freshmen will build their influence, communication skills and leadership abilities. To learn more about this curriculum, please visit growingleaders.com.

Students who complete the FLIGHT program will receive a Habitudes Growing Leaders Leadership Certificate of Completion. Freshmen, having completed the course, will have the opportunity to apply for an Eagle Leader position their sophomore, junior or senior year.

WHAT IS HABITUDES?

Images = Habits + Attitudes

The Iceberg

The iceberg represents your leadership.  The 10% above the water is your skill.  The 90% below the water is your character.  It’s what’s below the surface that sinks the ship.

The Starving Baker

Leaders must find ways to not only feed others, but also feed themselves for personal growth.

Golden Buddha

Leaders take time to identify their personal strengths and gifts. When they do, this shapes their self-image and results.

Fun House Mirror

A student’s level of integrity is a true reflection of who they really are.

Thermostats and Thermometers

Leaders develop personal values and principals to live by and set the tone for others.

Personal Laptop

Leaders are disciplined about what they store in their mind and heart.

Opportunity Statute

Take advantage of your time. Every second counts.

How It Works

Each Habitude image introduces young adults to powerful leadership principles rooted in real life, sparking conversations with mentors and FLIGHT Instructors that lead to memorable experiences. These unique and transformative encounters are a part of an ongoing process that builds essential leadership habits and attitudes.

This simple approach, outlined below, stems from our research-based principle that people learn better through circles of image-based learning and discussion than by simply sitting and listening in rows.

The Art of Self-Leadership uses memorable imagery, real-life stories and practical experiences to instill long-lasting character qualities in students, such as integrity, emotional security, self-discipline, determination, and initiative. The research-based approach to this flexible, proven character education curriculum empowers young adults to choose the core values of their lives and spark change in their school’s culture.

Habitudes helps our students:

  • Develop habits of self-discipline and initiative

  • Implement time management skills to do what really counts

  • Plan for personal growth outside the classroom

  • Identify their unique strengths and passions for a healthy self-image

  • Build strong character based on integrity and emotional security

  • Choose their own core values

  • And many more self-leadership habits
